World Patient Safety Day 2025

World Patient Safety Day

Supporting Safe Care from the Start

If you work in healthcare, you already know: caring for children is different. It’s not just about clinical expertise, it’s about empathy and partnership. This World Patient Safety Day, we’re asking you to pause and reflect: how can you help make care safer for every child, from the very beginning?

Why This Day Matters

Children are vulnerable. They rely on us, not just to treat them, but to protect them. A miscommunication, a moment of delay… these aren’t just errors. They’re risks that can shape a child’s future.

This year’s theme from the World Health Organization is a powerful reminder: patient safety starts with you. Whether you’re a nurse, doctor, researcher, or clinical trial manager, your actions matter. And your commitment to safety can change lives.

Five Ways You Can Deliver Safer Care

Here’s how you can make a difference, right now:

  1. Tailor care to the child Every child is unique. Adapt your approach to their age, size, and development. Always double-check identity and allergies before any intervention.

  2. Work with families, not just for them Families are your allies. Listen to them. Explain things clearly. Reassure them. When a child feels safe, healing begins.
  3. Spot risks early, and act fast Medication errors, infections, diagnostic delays, these are preventable. Stay alert. Respond quickly. Trust your instincts.
  4. Communicate like it counts Handovers, referrals, team updates. Make them clear. Safety thrives on good communication.
  5. Speak up and improve care See something concerning? Say something. You’re not just part of the system, you help shape it.

What This Means for Clinical Trials

At TRI , we believe patient safety isn’t just a clinical issue.

From protocol design to site monitoring, we embed safety into every step. Our RBQM software OPRA helps sponsors and CROs reduce risk, protect vulnerable populations, and ensure that trials involving children are as safe and ethical as possible.

If you’re involved in paediatric research, your role is critical. You’re not just collecting data, you’re safeguarding futures.

Join Us, And the Global Movement

On 17 September, landmarks around the world will light up orange to honor this cause. But the real impact starts with you. In your clinic. In your conversations. In your choices.

Let’s make patient safety more than a campaign.
